Projected Power Iteration for Network Alignment
نویسندگان
چکیده
The network alignment problem asks for the best correspondence between two given graphs, so that the largest possible number of edges are matched. This problem appears in many scientific problems (like the study of protein-protein interactions) and it is very closely related to the quadratic assignment problem which has graph isomorphism, traveling salesman and minimum bisection problems as particular cases. The graph matching problem is NP-hard in general. However, under some restrictive models for the graphs, algorithms can approximate the alignment efficiently. In that spirit the recent work by Feizi and collaborators introduce EigenAlign, a fast spectral method with convergence guarantees for Erdős-Renýı graphs. In this work we propose the algorithm Projected Power Alignment, which is a projected power iteration version of EigenAlign. We numerically show it improves the recovery rates of EigenAlign and we describe the theory that may be used to provide performance guarantees for Projected Power Alignment.

THE PROJECTED POWER METHOD: AN EFFICIENT ALGORITHM FOR JOINT ALIGNMENT FROM PAIRWISE DIFFERENCES By
Various applications involve assigning discrete label values to a collection of objects based on some noisy data. Due to the discrete—and hence nonconvex—structure of the problem, computing the maximum likelihood estimates (MLE) becomes intractable at first sight. This paper makes progress towards efficient computation of the MLE by focusing on a concrete joint alignment problem—that is, the pr...

متن کاملUsing an Efficient Penalty Method for Solving Linear Least Square Problem with Nonlinear Constraints
In this paper, we use a penalty method for solving the linear least squares problem with nonlinear constraints. In each iteration of penalty methods for solving the problem, the calculation of projected Hessian matrix is required. Given that the objective function is linear least squares, projected Hessian matrix of the penalty function consists of two parts that the exact amount of a part of i...
متن کاملDistributed Principal Component Analysis for Wireless Sensor Networks
The Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is a data dimensionality reduction technique well-suited for processing data from sensor networks. It can be applied to tasks like compression, event detection, and event recognition. This technique is based on a linear transform where the sensor measurements are projected on a set of principal components. When sensor measurements are correlated, a small s...
متن کاملPROJECTED DYNAMICAL SYSTEMS AND OPTIMIZATION PROBLEMS
We establish a relationship between general constrained pseudoconvex optimization problems and globally projected dynamical systems. A corresponding novel neural network model, which is globally convergent and stable in the sense of Lyapunov, is proposed. Both theoretical and numerical approaches are considered. Numerical simulations for three constrained nonlinear optimization problems a...
